Mysteries of Godliness: My Take

There is probably nothing in life of an active member of the of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints than a greater understanding of the meaning behind the temple endowment.  Members of said church profess and apologize regularly that the what we do inside the temple is not secret, but Sacred. (It is sacred because it contains some of the deepest teachings available to man). However, the reality is what happens inside the temple is secret, although unknown or unrealized.  The truths themselves are actually VERY SECRET because they are hidden by the symbolism through which they are revealed.   Jesus always taught in symbolism.  We Christians like to call them parables, but really isn't it all the same. They mean the same thing: parable, allegory, proverb, symbol, token, sign.

The Savior listened to and answered those who wanted the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven.  "We speak that we do know and testify that we have seen and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things and ye believe not, how shall ye believe if I tell you of heavenly things?" (John 3:11-12)

But what about those who were his truest followers?

The Savior said about the same thing to his own disciples at the Last Supper, after teaching them for three years: "I have yet many things to say unto you, BUT YE CANNOT BEAR THEM NOW... These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs, but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father." (John 16:12 & 25)

There is a time when things will become plain, but it is not a collective event for all Christians or Saints.  It is when you are ready.  The proverbs, tokens, signs, and symbols all still exist but it becomes clear.  You will say, "It is so plain.  How did I not see that before?".

Ask yourself this question and contemplate it from every angle you can envision: Am I willing to give ALL I 'have' to know the mysteries of godliness.
